I’m going to take a wild guess and say that you want don’t want to live in a home that’s anything less than fresh. Since I’m always on the hunt for new and natural ways to treat my space, here are my five super simple tricks to get your place smelling fresher than your neighbor’s.

The Refrigerator: Baking Soda + Lavender
Fill a glass medium-sized ramekin with baking soda. Top it off with fresh (or dried) lavender petals. (Tip: To bring out the lavender scent, quickly rub the petals between your palms to release their oils.) Place in your fridge for freshness up to 60 days.

The Garbage Disposal: Citrus Peels
It may be super simple, but you can easily turn that gross-smelling garbage disposal into a citrus grove by running it with a few peels from your favorite citrus fruit. I personally love lemons, but grapefruit does the trick too. Tip: Try the peels from one lemon and run for 10 to 15 seconds or until pulverized.

The Drain: Baking Soda + Hot Vinegar
If you’re like me and sans garbage disposal, that doesn’t mean you can’t bypass lurking funky smells coming from your drain. Since you can’t use the citrus trick, there is a solution. Heat up one cup of white vinegar in the microwave for about one minute. Mix in one cup of baking soda, then pour the mixture down the drain. Wait five minutes and then run hot water for 30 seconds.

The Oven (slash your entire home!): Vanilla + Aluminum Foil
This one I learned from my mother: Pour one tablespoon of vanilla extract onto a small aluminum foil cup and bake in the oven on low. Your entire home will smell like fresh baked cookies in no time. Yum!

The Air: Vinegar + Rose Water
You may be wondering, “Why is she telling me to spray stinky vinegar into the air?” Trust me, once it evaporates, that potent smell will be gone. White vinegar is a powerful disinfectant and natural cleaner. Mix one part vinegar to one part rose water in a spray bottle for a sweet smelling air spray. Shake before use.

The Shower:  Eucalyptus Essential Oil + Water
My personal favorite that I use at home: A eucalyptus shower spray I make myself. Fill a spray bottle with water and add in about 30 to 50 drops of eucalyptus essential oil (depending upon the bottle size). Shake before use, and spray it after taking a shower for a spa-like scent that also disinfects.
